Hawaiʻi-based singer, Mel Kay, is back with her new single, CLASS, set to be
released at The Slack Key Lounge, February 10th.
“Throughout the past few years many of us have been in survival mode.
Moving from one thing to the next & coping with the worldwide upheavals as
well as we can. I wanted to create this show as a way to appreciate those who
have gone before us & to recognize the things in life that were truly
spectacular from days gone by. Inspiration for some of music will be imagined
from the perspective of people who lived through world war II. It will focus on
the strength and beauty people managed to still find in life in the midst of the
bitterness of a world at war. I also want to pay homage to some of the
diamonds in the rough; the iconic voices and artists throughout that era.”
CLASS will also be a chance for people to put on their dancing shoes and to
dress up with an award for the most creative costume.
“We want to create a space for people to come and have a great night as they
travel back in time to a vintage style show. We encourage people to dress
vintage and get creative with it; think masquerade ball. We will also have a
demonstration for partner dancing and a set where people can get up and kick
up their heels to some great live music.”
Mel Kay was trained as a singer at The Western Australian Academy of
Performing Arts in Australia and has since worked in the music industry as a
writer, singer, and session musician in Australia for over 10 years. Mel had her
first USA single launch in September called HEAVEN. It sold out thanks to the
amazing group of people that came to support it. We hope to see you again at
this next show!
